Mezyad Border — Al Ain to Oman

The UAE–Oman crossing south of Al Ain: the gateway to Al Buraimi and inner Oman, with exit fees, Orange Card insurance, documents and opening hours.

Crossing at Mezyad

Mezyad is the UAE–Oman land crossing south of Al Ain, below Jebel Hafeet. It is the practical gateway to Al Buraimi and inner Oman — Ibri, Nizwa and the Empty Quarter road toward Salalah — and a quieter alternative to the busier Hatta–Al Wajajah crossing.

The drive to the post is easy: it is roughly 150 km from Dubai through Al Ain. As with every Oman crossing, the delays come from paperwork rather than the road. Sort your Oman insurance, exit fee and vehicle permission before you set off and Mezyad is a fast, straightforward stop.

Documents, insurance & exit fee

Before you reach Mezyad, make sure every traveller has a passport and residents carry their Emirates ID. You need the vehicle registration (Mulkiya) and motor insurance that is valid for Oman — most UAE policies exclude it, so arrange an Orange Card or short-term Oman cover in advance. The UAE charges a land exit fee of AED 35 per person.

Rental & financed cars

The most common document problems happen with rental cars, borrowed vehicles and cars under finance. If the car is not in your name, check permission before you reach the border.

Mezyad border — frequently asked questions

Which countries does the Mezyad border connect?

Mezyad is a land crossing between the UAE and Oman. The UAE post sits just south of Al Ain, below Jebel Hafeet, and crosses into Oman at Al Buraimi. From there the road continues to Ibri, Nizwa and the inland route toward Salalah.

Where is the Mezyad border crossing?

It is at the southern edge of Al Ain, near Jebel Hafeet, about 150 km from Dubai and 170 km from Abu Dhabi. The crossing is also written as Mazyad, and some maps label it by the Al Buraimi post on the Oman side.

Mezyad or Hatta — which crossing should I use?

Use Hatta–Al Wajajah if you are heading to Muscat, Sohar and northern Oman from Dubai or Sharjah. Mezyad is the better choice for Al Buraimi, Ibri and the inland run toward Nizwa or Salalah, and it is usually quieter on weekdays.

What are the Mezyad border opening hours?

The crossing generally operates 24 hours, but hours can change and late-night lanes are not guaranteed. Confirm before travelling overnight, and expect longer queues on UAE and Omani weekends and public holidays.

What documents and insurance do I need at Mezyad?

Carry passports for everyone, Emirates ID for residents, the vehicle registration (Mulkiya) and Oman-valid insurance or an Orange Card. UAE nationals and eligible residents can obtain an Oman entry permit; other nationalities should check visa eligibility in advance.

Is there a UAE exit fee at Mezyad?

Yes. The standard UAE land-border exit fee of AED 35 per person applies when leaving by road, the same as at the other UAE–Oman crossings.
