How Salik works

Do you pay Salik when leaving UAE? If your route out of Dubai passes active Salik gates, yes, those crossings are charged as normal according to time band rules. Darb in Abu Dhabi follows its own charged period structure. Neither system "waives" tolls because you are on an international trip.

Salik is the most visible item for UAE drivers. Depending on time band, gates are commonly planned at AED 4 or AED 6 per crossing in current trip budgets. This means departure time can change total toll cost without changing route distance. A family that leaves 45 minutes later can pay meaningfully more if it triggers additional peak-window crossings.

Darb behaves differently because charges are period-based and gate-specific. If your selected route touches charged zones during active windows, that should be budgeted in advance. Do not merge Darb into miscellaneous spending. Keep it as a route-control line item so you can compare alternatives properly.
