Theory test preparation
The RTA theory test consists of 35 multiple-choice questions. You need to score at least 24 correct (roughly 69%) to pass. Questions cover road signs, right of way, safe following distances, emergency procedures and UAE-specific traffic law.
Road signs & signals
Warning, prohibition, mandatory and information signs. Know the shape, colour and meaning of each category.
Right of way
Roundabout priority, give way rules, lane discipline and merging on highways. The most commonly failed topic.
Safe driving practice
Following distance rules, overtaking procedure, night driving, adverse weather and emergency vehicle protocol.
Road test — common failure points
- Not checking mirrors before changing lanes or turning
- Incorrect use of indicators — too late or not at all
- Failing to yield at roundabouts
- Excessive speed or driving too slowly for the road
- Poor lane positioning, especially on multi-lane roads
- Stopping over the line at red lights or stop signs
- Parking test failures: not straightening the wheel, hitting the kerb, or touching cones
Preparation tip
